Milwaukee – United Migrant Opportunity Services (UMOS), headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened an office in Florida City, Florida in the fall of 2016 to provide year-round service to migrant farmworkers that travel to Missouri and Wisconsin, and to explore additional opportunities.

Last week UMOS was selected to manage 4 CareerSource South Florida Centers in Opa Locka, Carol City, Key Largo and Key West, Florida. “UMOS submitted a good proposal that afforded them the opportunity to operate the centers, states Rick Beasley, Executive Director, CareerSource South Florida.  We look forward to working with them.” CareerSource Centers are the equivalent to One-Stop Job Centers in Wisconsin and are funded by the South Florida Workforce Investment Board.

UMOS operates the largest, most diverse job center in Wisconsin, located next to its corporate headquarters in Milwaukee. On average 20,000 customers walk through the UMOS Job Center doors every month. “UMOS is a performance-based, data-driven, customer focused company,” states Lupe Martinez, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We pride ourselves in meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers, while meeting and exceeding the expectations of our funding sources. We are looking forward to this opportunity in South Florida.

UMOS previously operated One-Stop Job Centers in South Texas and in Kansas.

Today, UMOS operates over 40 programs divided into 3 major divisions: Workforce

Development, Child Development, and Social Services. Workforce Development is our largest program division and has evolved into an area of specialty for us,” states Martinez. UMOS is the largest non-profit, workforce development, performance-based contractor in Wisconsin, implementing the Wisconsin Works (W-2) Program, Transform Milwaukee Jobs Program and the Transitional Jobs Program in Milwaukee, Racine and northeastern Wisconsin.

“This new contract with CareerSource South Florida will expand our presence in the state of Florida and hopefully lead to additional opportunities to partner with other government and non-profit agencies,” concluded Martinez.

UMOS has operations in Missouri, Minnesota and Texas, as well as in Wisconsin and Florida.
