Trump Insults Christian Values at Latino Evangelical Church in South Florida
Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says Latino Community will Remember Injustices Against Most Vulnerable at Ballot Box
Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has released the following statement on Trump’s campaign rally at the Ministerio Internacional El Rey Jesús Church, in West Kendall, Florida, today:
“Latinos are a majority Christian community, Latinos everywhere are concerned by President Trump’s fake Christian campaign rally at a Latino Evangelical Church that serves a large undocumented population in South Florida this Friday,” says Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President. “As Trump pretends to stand for Christian values today– during this season in which Christians worldwide commemorate the Holy Family’s refugee journey– we hope that this congregation and its leadership ask President Trump why his Administration has locked Christian Latino refugee children in cages, separated Christian parents fleeing persecution and violence from their children, and continues to hold our Christian children in deplorable conditions by refusing them even basic healthcare and compassion.”
“Christian faith leaders from around the country, including the Evangelical Christian communities, along with religious leaders from other faiths, have repeatedly called upon President Trump and his Administration to stop its immoral policies on our nation’s most vulnerable people, including the ongoing reign of terror and racism against Christian Latino and immigrant communities,” continued Garcia. “As the nation’s oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization, representing a large Christian community for 90 years, we demand that President Trump respects our nation’s Judeo-Christian traditions and act in accordance with basic morality in administering public policies such as respecting religious sanctuaries, and pardoning the hundreds of immigrants staying in churches to avoid family separation and deportation to possible deaths.”
“LULAC respectfully calls on Pastor Guillermo Maldonado of the Ministerio Internacional El Rey Jesús Church to sign on to an Open Letter by Faith Leaders in support of sanctuary regarding the mistreatment of undocumented immigrants, many of which are a part of his congregation.”
