MPS Cancels Trips Overseas Amidst Terrorism Concerns
Milwaukee – News reports state that Milwaukee Public School officials have canceled all international student trips for the rest of the school year.
According to Tony Tagliavia, MPS’ media manager, the ban also includes upcoming trips to Washington, D.C., through December and possibly longer.
Administrators made the call after the U.S. State Department issued a worldwide travel alert citing the current terrorism threat.
At Golda Meir School, the annual fourth-grade trip to Denmark has been a tradition for more than two decades. That tradition is now on hold.
MPS said the decision affects about a half-dozen trips that were geared toward museums and government buildings.
“We feel disappointed, but we feel like it’s what we have to do in the interest of student safety,” Tagliavia said.
