The purpose of the march was to rally support for St. Marcus School to purchase the long vacant Malcolm X building from Milwaukee Public Schools for a second campus to provide top quality education to another 900 children.
Sheriff Clarke said, “Expanding a successful school in the city is a crime-prevention initiative, and that’s why I joined them. Any area official who talks of doing everything we can do to reduce poverty and reduce violence, can put their money where their mouth is by participating in this anti-crime effort.”
The group marched from St. Marcus School on the corner of Palmer Street and North Avenue to the former Malcolm X Academy at 2760 N. 1st St.
