Milwaukee audiences will have the opportunity to experience the music, memories and spirit of Havana when BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB™ comes to the Marcus Performing Arts Center from January 5 through January 10, 2027.
The Tony® and GRAMMY® Award-winning Broadway musical brings the legendary story of Cuban music to the stage through a powerful combination of theater and live music. The production takes audiences into the world of Havana and explores dreams, second chances, memory and the enduring power of music.
At the center of the story is Omara Portuondo, the legendary Cuban singer once celebrated as the “Queen” of Feeling. After years away from the recording studio and largely out of the spotlight, Portuondo is presented with an unexpected opportunity by an ambitious young record producer. The encounter forces her to confront her past while considering the possibility of a new beginning.
The production draws inspiration from the iconic Buena Vista Social Club album, which became internationally recognized for bringing traditional Cuban music to audiences around the world. Rather than simply recreating the history of the recording, the Broadway production uses music and storytelling to explore the people and experiences behind the cultural phenomenon.
The Milwaukee engagement will be presented by Johnson Financial Group at the Marcus Performing Arts Center in Uihlein Hall, located at 929 N. Water St. The production is intended for audiences ages 8 and older and has a running time of approximately two hours and 10 minutes, including one intermission.
Performances are scheduled for Tuesday, January 5, through Friday, January 8, at 7:30 p.m. The show will continue Saturday, January 9, with performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., followed by two performances Sunday, January 10, at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Single tickets are currently on sale, while subscriptions and group-ticket options are also available. Groups interested in attending together can contact the Marcus Center’s Group Sales team to reserve seats.
The production has received national attention, with The Washington Post describing it as a “jaw-dropping, soul-stirring must see.” Its combination of Cuban musical traditions and Broadway storytelling has helped introduce the Buena Vista Social Club story to a new generation of theatergoers.
For Milwaukee’s Cuban, Latino and broader arts communities, the production offers an opportunity to experience a story deeply connected to Cuban cultural heritage while enjoying a major Broadway production close to home.
The Marcus Performing Arts Center is wheelchair accessible and provides additional accessibility services for patrons. With performances spread across six days, audiences will have several opportunities to see the production and experience its engagement.
Tickets and additional information are available through the Marcus Center and Ticketmaster.
