Milwaukee, WI — On Monday, August 26, 2019, at approximately 11:15 a.m. a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy was on the scene of a separate crash that required a tow truck. A semi-truck driving southbound through the Mitchell Interchange on I-43 north of Layton struck the tow truck, which had responded to the crash. The semi-truck cab separated from its base, after striking the tow truck, and the trailer flipped on its side blocking all three lanes of traffic. The tow truck slammed into the wall and the driver became trapped in the cab of the vehicle and was extricated by the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD). He was conveyed to a local hospital for serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver, and his passenger had cuts to their head and arms and were able to exit the flipped semi on their own. They were transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The semi-Truck was hauling 6000 pounds of light fixtures and the driver holds a valid commercial driver’s license from the state of Ohio.  He was issued two citations. All lanes of traffic, southbound through the Mitchell Interchange, were shut down. Traffic was diverted to go west and exit at Loomis Road. Milwaukee Police Department and Greenfield Police Department assisted with city street closures.
