A Salem woman stole more than $260,000 from her Racine employer, according to court records, by writing checks to herself and her husband over an eight-year period.

Tiffany Cain, 39, is charged with seven counts of felony theft. If convicted, each charge carries the possibility of five years in prison and $25,000 in fines, plus time on supervised release.

The suspected theft was reported in June 2014. The owner of Ace Stamping and Machine Co. told police Cain had been a trusted employee and friend, who managed his personal finances, but who he had come to suspect of stealing money by writing unauthorized checks to herself and her husband. The man said he had given Cain permission to use the checkbook to pay his expenses, but not to write checks to herself.
