The Cultures & Communities Festival, presented by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network, features 34 feature films and 18 events

MILWAUKEE – Monday, Aug. 16, 2021 Milwaukee Film’s 2021 Cultures & Communities Festival (C&C Fest), formerly the Minority Health Film Festival, presented by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network, will feature 34 film titles, 3 shorts programs, 2 pop-up cinemas, and 18 events across various virtual and in-person venues, the nonprofit announced on Monday.

Taking place Sept. 6-12, the goal of this one-of-a-kind event is to promote individual and communal wellness improvements while inspiring attendees to celebrate their cultural heritage and authentic selves. C&C Fest uses groundbreaking films, nationally recognized speakers, local insight, and various events to encourage conversation and empower action.

“The Culture & Communities Festival is all about growth,” said Geraud Blanks, chief innovation officer for Milwaukee Film. “Our organization has evolved during the past year, and so it made sense that the original concept of the Minority Health Film Festival would too. While the brand has changed, the mission is still the same, to promote holistic health and social wellness through cinematic experiences and community dialog.”

C&C Fest is guided by principles of cultural equity, ensuring representation in festival programming and outreach for communities that have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender and gender identity, socioeconomic status, and citizenship status.
