PLEASANT PRAIRIE – An interim commission has been officially established to enable a future nonprofit convention and visitors bureau that would eventually help promote the village’s many tourism, business and recreational activities.

“This Convention and Tourism Commission is sort of a place holder or a bridge until we could create the actual bureau,” said Tom Shircel, the village’s interim administrator.

The Village Board on Monday night approved the ordinance creating the interim commission, which will have six members, including one representative from a hotel or motel enterprise. Comprising the commission would be members with “recognized experience and qualifications” on the all-volunteer panel, according to the ordinance. The commission would become effective Jan. 1, Shircel said.
