When it comes to competitions, schools in Kenosha County are the place to “bee.”

Randall School held its annual Geography Bee Jan. 28, and from 10 finalists competing in fourth to eighth grades, seventh-grader Brad Becker was the first-place winner, according to Karen Reddin, the school’s gifted and talented program coordinator.

Seventh-grader Ashton Rack finished second, and third place went to eighth-grader Kaitlyn Sweeney.

The school bee is the first round in the 31st annual National Geographic Bee. Thousands of schools across the U.S. and in the five U.S. territories are participating in this year’s competition.

The school champions, including Becker, also took an online test, Reddin said. Up to 100 of the top scorers on this test in each state will then be eligible to compete in the Wisconsin State Bee on April 6. Randall will be notified on or before March 2 if Becker will move on to the state competition.
