MILWAUKEE – The old South Stadium is coming down after serving the Milwaukee Public Schools and community for over 90 years. MPS built the facility in 1923.
In its place a $9 million new stadium will be built.
Bay View, Bradley Tech and South Division High Schools will play their home football and soccer games on the field.
“The people who did the job in 1920, 1921 did an outstanding job. It lasted very nicely over the years, but Wisconsin winters take their toll and repairs can only go so long, and everything gets old and everything needs to updated and repaired and it will look great when it’s done,” said Michael Wenzel, the Assistant Stadium Manager in an interview with WITI news.
The demolition price tag is over $550,000.00 The new stadium is expected to be complete by the end of 2014.
MPS says the new stadium will host schools across the district and will be the home stadium for Bay View, Bradley Tech and South Division high schools’ football and soccer games.
The new stadium will get revamped by artificial grass installers to include a turf field, upgraded seating and a concession stand.
