Local efforts to use the overdose-combating drug Narcan has saved seven people in its first year.

The Kenosha County Health Department program, launched earlier this year with grant funding, trains the public, law enforcement and community agencies in the hope of combating the epidemic of heroin and opioid overdose deaths.

Last week, staff of the Kenosha County District Attorney’s office, including District Attorney Michael Graveley, went through Narcan training. At the end of the session, staff members received a kit including a two-dose box of Narcan, a drug that reverses opioid overdose.
