Laura Gramling Perez, candidate for the nonpartisan Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge race, was asked at a recent forum of the Milwaukee County Republican South Branch caucus, if she had signed the petition to recall Scott Walkerby the branch chairman,
Michael Murphy. “Did you sign the recall petition?” Murphy asked. “Well, I can tell
you first of all, that the signature-that’s not my signature,” Perez stated. “I would never ever sign anything that did not contain my own name or address.” The discussion was caught on video and posted on UTUBE. The video clearly shows that as Perez continued to speak, she then subtly reversed her initial statement, saying “I did in fact, sign the recall”.
Perez said this in front of numerous conservative members of the Republican group attending the meeting.
After stating that the Walker petition her signature appeared on was not her signature, Perez then went into a bizarre explanation about why her signature appeared on the petition saying that her name did not show up in the public records, perhaps because the petition was not turned in to the Government Accountability Board in time.
Confused?
Perez, after explaining that the reason why the signature on the petition was not her signature and why her signature on the Walker petition did not appear on the public record, then told forum attendees that she had been endorsed by Joe Violand, a Ozaukee County judge who was elected running on the platform that he did not sign the recall petition.
In an article published in a conservative news report, the chairman the Milwaukee County Republican South Branch said, “Had I known who she was prior to her speaking, I would not have allowed her to speak. However, in 20/20 hindsight, I am kind of glad she did…because she ousted herself as a conservative candidate the moment she said that she had signed the recall.”
