SALEM LAKES — Creating business district plans for each of the unincorporated hamlets of Salem Lakes was discussed by the Village Board this week.

Michael Blue, a planner with Teska Associates, of Evanston, Ill., said it would be a good way to begin updating the comprehensive plan to reflect the vision of the newly created village, formed by the merger of the town of Salem and the village of Silver Lake.

“One place to start is the business districts,” Blue said. “They are the centers of the neighborhoods.”

Salem Lakes has five hamlets – Salem, Trevor, Silver Lake, Wilmot and Camp Lake – and the Highway 50 business district.

Blue said developing plans for each would involve talking to stakeholders, taking inventory of existing businesses and infrastructure and coming up with a vision for each area.
