MILWAUKEE – State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement on a Day Without Latinx and Immigrants:

“We are a nation built by immigrants—people who raise families, work hard, pay taxes and give back to their communities. Today, thousands of Latinos, immigrants and activists came to Madison for a Day Without Latinx and Immigrants. They are fighting back against bigotry and hate. They are advocating for real solutions that make the lives of all Wisconsinites better.

“The voices of the people was loud and clear—we need driver’s cards for undocumented immigrants. This is a public safety issue, and this is a moral issue. I want to thank Governor Tony Evers for his leadership and support. It’s clear he stands behind us.

“I also want to thank the business and leaders who participated in solidarity. But most of all, I want to thank everyone who came to today’s event. I’m proud of your bravery and advocacy. I know you risk so much when you speak up, but you give voice to a better future for all of us.”
