Milwaukee, Wis. Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell R. Lucas is delivering on his promise to change the dialogue in our community, deliver a high level of service and restore honor, integrity and trust to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Lucas and his team are making progress in areas that are helping restore MCSO to a proud organization. In the area of enforcement, some of these accomplishments include:

Restoring five captains to law enforcement duties. 

Sheriff Lucas returned five captains to patrol functions consistent with a pledge he made during his campaign. These personnel are leading the Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Civil Process Division and the Field Deputies Division.

Targeting aggressive driving.

The Aggressive Driving Initiative is targeting the recklessness on our freeway systems. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Milwaukee Police and the City-County Carjacking and Reckless Driving Task Force launched this initiative in early February to hold to account those who endanger our lives on the road.

Ensuring 24-hour accountability.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office created two Field Deputy positions, responsible for inspecting agency operations and providing front-line field supervision throughout Milwaukee County during evenings, weekends and holidays.

Providing recently-hired deputies with intensive patrol training.

Patrolling Milwaukee County’s expressways under the supervision of veteran field training officers, recently-hired deputies are developing the skills necessary to protect the public in dynamic situations.

In the area of partnerships and collaborations, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has accomplished the following:

Partnering with law enforcement. 

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has assigned members to the FBI’s Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Gang Strike Force, the HIDTA Task Force, the City-County Carjacking and Reckless Driving Task Force and an anti-human trafficking partnership to make Milwaukee County strong and safe.

Collaborating with the Board of Supervisors and the County Executive.

Collaborations include a new healthcare provider in the Milwaukee County Jail, security on MCTS buses, security in the Milwaukee County Courthouse complex and access to women’s hygiene products in the Jail.

Meeting with leaders and stakeholders in Milwaukee County. 

Sheriff Lucas and his team met with representatives of the Mexican Consulate, the Vietnamese and Hmong communities, immigrant rights organizations, Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee County’s transgender, intersex and gender non-confirming (TIGN) communities to ensure that the voices of the people are heard.

Ending information-sharing with ICE on persons in custody. 

Sheriff Lucas has established a policy ensuring that, absent a valid judicial warrant, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office is not sharing information with ICE regarding persons detained in the Milwaukee County Jail.

Bringing the Badger State Sheriffs’ Association convention to Milwaukee. 

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office landed the Badger State Sheriffs’ Association convention for the first time in decades. Held from August 19 to August 23, the convention will attract law enforcement and vendors from across the United States.

Working to inspire our youth. 

Sheriff Lucas is committed to inspiring youth to pursue public service at schools, community centers and places of worship. Sheriff Lucas has visited locations including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Rufus King International High School, Benjamin Franklin School, Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God in Christ, Christ the King Baptist Church, and Tabernacle Community Baptist Church.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has worked to restore honor, integrity and trust through the following accomplishments:

Establishing an Office of Legal Affairs and Compliance.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office created an Office of Legal Affairs and Compliance, under the leadership of Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Molly Zillig, to ensure that we are doing the right things and to ensure that we are doing them right. 

Creating an Executive Command Staff.

Sheriff Lucas announced his Executive Command Staff, comprising Chief Deputy Denita Ball, bureau commanders, civilian administrators and division commanders responsible for training, professional standards and the security of county-operated facilities.
