The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Veterans Upward Bound Program is seekingapplications from individuals interested in a non-teaching, academic staffposition as an Instructional Specialist. The Veterans Upward Bound Programprovides opportunities for participants to succeed in higher educationpursuits.  This position will beresponsible for providing educational, academic and career advising,counseling, and assisting with the planning and implementation of curriculum,and support services to veterans. Candidates should possess the ability totravel, including overnight travel, in SE Wisconsin/Midwest/etc. using one’sown means of or public transportation, and be able to work some evenings andweekends. Qualified candidates musthave a Bachelor’s degree at the time of hire, and 2 years post-baccalaureate experienceworking with veterans and veterans’ service organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, counseling, curriculum and instruction or military science highly desirable; ability to relate to veterans of the Armed Forces; knowledgeable about the educational needs of veterans; experience in overcoming obstacles similar to those encountered by veterans; pre-College and /or post-secondary education work experience and/or in assisting veterans with the college enrollment/access process; knowledgeable of veterans’ service providers in southeastern Wisconsin; experience in providing instructional activities; evidence of strong written and oral communication skills; knowledge of the grant writing process a plus; experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to develop program related documents/materials; experience with database programs and/or data entry. Knowledge/experience with on-line learning tools and programs is also preferred.

This is a fixed term, non-teaching, academic staff appointment and includes occasional evening and weekend hours. Salary range is dependent on the level of educational and professional experience within the UWM academic staff salary structure and includes a comprehensive benefits package covered under the Wisconsin Retirement System.
