UWM CAREER OPPORTUNITY

UWM Educational Talent Search Program has an opening for an Advisor.  The program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. The program assists participants with the postsecondary application process. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.  This position assists with the planning, and implementation of programmatic events and activities as well as outreach and recruitment.  Qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree (non-specified) and a minimum of two (2) years of post-baccalaureate experience working with low-income and/or under-represented populations

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Counseling, Social Sciences, or related fields; experience in Higher Education and/or pre-college type programs a plus; experience working with middle/high school students; experience working with a diverse student population; evidence of ability to execute academic and advising workshops; have strong written and verbal communication skills; evidence of ability to plan long and short term programs; bilingual in Spanish is a plus; experience overcoming obstacles similar to target population also a plus; proficient with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with databases.

This is a fixed term, non-teaching, academic staff appointment and includes occasional evening and weekend hours.  Salary ranges from $39,000 to $47,000 depending on the level of educational training and years of professional advising and/or counseling experience within the UWM academic staff salary structure. This appointment includes a comprehensive benefits package covered under the Wisconsin Retirement System.
