PHOENIX – The Harlem Globetrotters have recognized Miles Rodriguez, Scooter Terrien, and Chase Vazquez from Lincoln Middle School in Kenosha, WI., as Junior Phenoms for standing up to bullies during a basketball game.
The eighth graders walked off the court in the middle of their game to come to the aid of cheerleader Desiree Andrews, who has Down syndrome.
“The boys used the ABCs. They took Action, they showed Bravery, and they demonstrated Compassion, as they continue to strengthen a friendship with Desiree.”
Hi-Lite and teammates Cheese Chisholm and Hammer Harrison congratulated the boys with a special video salute.
Known as the Ambassadors of Goodwill™, the Globetrotters look for stories of amazing kids who spread their own goodwill and demonstrate traits like helping others, assisting in the community, outstanding teamwork and being positive role models.
The Globetrotters Junior Phenom Award is the team’s way of saying, “Thank you,” and applauding those individuals who go above and beyond.
The Globetrotters bring “The ABCs of Bullying Prevention” to over 400 schools and youth centers each year in an effort to impact communities around the world.
Stars of the team present the program, which focuses on Action, Bravery, and Compassion, comprising the ABCs.
