SHEBOYGAN – A man faces first-degree intentional homicide charges in connection with a pair of early-morning shootings this past week end.

Luis Garcia, 42, of Oostburg, and Fernando Lara Lopez, 43, of Milwaukee, were killed in the shooting, the sheriff’s office confirmed in a news release.

The Sheboygan Sheriffs department said the investigation into the crime remains ongoing.

Deputies responded to the shooting just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning inside a residence on the 400 block of North 10th Street. Both men had apparently died of gunshot wounds.

Law enforcement said the homicides could be the first ever recorded in Oostburg, a tiny village that’s better known for its small-town feel and Dutch heritage than for crime. A former deputy who had been with the department since the early 1960s couldn’t recall a murder in Oostburg since at least 1963, if ever.

“It actually could be the first (murder),” say authorities.
