TWIN LAKES — Changes to the sex offender residency ordinance are being recommended by the Twin Lakes village attorney based on court cases in other communities.
“You have to allow some area of the village for sex offenders to reside,” attorney Elaine Ekes said. “What percentage we don’t know. Our obligation is to adjust our ordinance based on what we do know.”
As a result, the Village Board is forced to look at reducing the distance sex offenders can live from a protected location, such as a school or licensed day care, park or recreational trail and places of worship.
