Kenosha – Tanya Ruder, Kenosha Unified School District Chief Communications Officer, released a statement clarifying a news report by the Wheeler Report in which it was reported that 67 school referenda was scheduled for November mentioning Kenosha being listed as having an October 27th referendum was in error.

Ruder stated “A recent publication of the Wheeler Report falsely reported an upcoming referendum for the Kenosha Unified School District.”

The statement released by Ruder continued to state, “The report was intended to inform the public as to referenda they could expect to see on the ballot in the upcoming elections. School district referenda information is reported to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and publicly accessible via customized reports.

“The information used in the Wheeler Report was not properly filtered to exclude Resolutions to Exceed the Revenue Cap for Energy Efficiency Projects, which are approved solely by local school boards and do not require a referendum. Energy Efficiency Exemption provisions were defined in the 2011 Wisconsin Act 32 and subsequent legislation.

“The Kenosha Unified School District board of education recently passed a Resolution to Exceed the Revenue Cap for Energy Efficiency Projects and this was erroneously included in the upcoming referenda report and should have been filtered out.

“Please be advised, the Kenosha Unified School District does not have any planned referenda at this time.”

The Wheeler Report corrected its report.
