MILWAUKEE – This year marks the 11th anniversary of the CBS 58, Brewers Community Foundation (BCF) and Hunger Task Force Drive-Thru Food Drive. The annual tradition collects turkeys and healthy foods for seniors, families and children at Thanksgiving. This year’s event is being held on Friday, Nov. 18 at American Family Field from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
As cars pull through the American Family Field parking lot “drive-thru” next to Helfaer Field, volunteers will be ready to accept food donations. CBS 58 will broadcast live from the food drive throughout the day, and visitors will be able to meet some of their favorite CBS 58 personalities and the beloved Famous Racing SausagesTM.
Turkey donations for the holidays are in high demand, and the first 300 cars that make a donation will receive a Brewers bobblehead plus additional giveaway items, while supplies last. A donation of three or more frozen turkeys will receive a special Brewers bobble-head set.
The food drive comes at a critical time of year. With rising food and gas prices, Milwaukee pantry traffic has steadily increased throughout the year to more than 31,000 people each month, with numbers expected to rise as the weather turns colder. Donations of healthy, non-perishable foods— particularly healthy breakfast cereal, canned low-sodium vegetables and fruit in 100 percent juice—are especially important this time of year to stock Hunger Task Force’s food bank, as are frozen turkey donations for family holiday dinner tables.
“This holiday season will be tough for a lot of families, so we appreciate the generosity of the community to help ensure all families have the opportunity to enjoy delicious meals with their loved ones,” said Executive Director of Hunger Task Force Sherrie Tussler. “We’re so grateful for our friends at CBS 58 and Brewers Community Foundation for their tireless work to keep the Drive-Thru Food Drive going strong.” “I know we have a lot of generous people in our community who want to give, so it’s great to be a part of such a special event where so many can help others in their community,” said CBS 58’s General Manager Anne Brown.
“Our friends at Hunger Task Force have consistently met the basic needs of countless families,” said Brewers Community Foundation Executive Director Cecelia Gore. “The partnership we have forged over the last decade with Hunger Task Force and CBS 58 has provided an opportunity to have a deep impact which resonates beyond the food drive. We are proud to be affiliated with this effort.”
