MADISON — Wisconsin voters have elected David Crowley as the state’s next governor, marking a historic milestone in the state’s 178-year history.

Crowley, the former Milwaukee County Executive, defeated Republican candidate Tom Tiffany in the November 3 gubernatorial election. His victory makes him the first Black person elected governor of Wisconsin.

A Milwaukee native, Crowley’s political career includes service in the Wisconsin State Assembly and leadership of Milwaukee County. His election represents a significant moment for the city of Milwaukee and communities across the state.

Throughout his campaign, Crowley emphasized the importance of affordability, healthcare, education, childcare and economic opportunity. He also highlighted the need to strengthen public services and address challenges facing Wisconsin families.

The election drew attention across the state as voters considered the future direction of Wisconsin’s government and its priorities.

Crowley’s victory brings a new administration to Madison following Governor Tony Evers’ departure after two terms in office.

As he prepares to take office, Crowley faces the responsibility of bringing together communities across Wisconsin and turning campaign commitments into policies.
