CIUDAD DEL VATICANO — De acuerdo a la Presa Asociada, el papa Francisco hizo el viernes un llamado a los gobiernos para que aseguren que todos sus ciudadanos tengan acceso a atención médica adecuada. En un mensaje anual del pontífice en el que reflexiona sobre las necesidades de los enfermos, Francisco exhortó a las instituciones de atención médica y líderes de gobierno a que “no desatiendan la justicia social, considerando solamente el aspecto económico que conlleva la enfermedad”. El pontífice lamentó en su comunicado escrito que muchos en el mundo no tengan acceso a cuidados médicos porque viven en la pobreza. Se expresó a favor de la solidaridad para asegurar que todos reciban la atención que necesitan a fin de mantenerse saludables y recuperarse de las enfermedades. Francisco también calificó de una tragedia el hecho de que personal e instalaciones médicas hayan sido atacados durante las guerras y conflictos violentos. “El poder político también pretende manipular la asistencia médica a su favor” en algunos lugares, agregó, aunque no mencionó situaciones específicas.
