MILWAUKEE-  On September 8th, 2019 Milwaukee Water Commons will host We Are Water at South Shore Park beach.  This engaging community event brings 250+ people together from all parts of the city to celebrate our common waters on the shores of Lake Michigan. This year’s theme, “Every Culture Has Water Stories”, will guide the evening as people from all parts of the city gather on the shores of Lake Michigan to celebrate our common waters. Carmen Murguia, Milwaukee writer and activist, will MC the evening, beginning with drumming by Cecilio Negron, Jr.,  music by Latino Strings Mariachi Infantil and libations with Rodney Sanchez.

Storytelling will follow, with unique water stories from five different Milwaukeeans, as well a poetry from Kavon Cortez Jones.  Folk music from David HB Drake will be the soundtrack as all participants are invited to create a giant, illuminated image of the Great Lakes in the sand, with help from Milwaukee Water Commons’ Artist-in-Residence, Melanie Ariens. We Are Water is a truly unique Milwaukee event, not to be missed. All are invited to attend. Family friendly event & free of cost.
