Kenosha County Tree Removal Nets Dnr, Urban Forestry Council Award

Saving big bucks in a progressive approach to remove emerald ash borer-affected trees earned Kenosha County recognition recently from the Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council.

The key was contracting with a logging company not only to remove the affected trees, but, in addition, to own and market the lumber, according to Parks Director Matthew Collins.

“We got this work done at an average of $15.44 per tree,” Collins said Wednesday. “Our highest bid came to over a million dollars if we used a traditional forestry company. By using a logging company, we got it done for $62,445.”
