Milwaukee, Wis. – Milwaukee Public Schools will be joined by Jason Thunstrom, Vice President of Minneapolis-based Life Time Foundation for a press conference highlighting a new partnership for the continuing improvement of meals at Milwaukee Public Schools. This new three-year partnership between MPS and The Life Time Foundation, a national public charity, will focus on creating a healthier menu free of seven categories of undesirable ingredients, the Harmful 7. The partnership will work to improve the food served to more than 75,000 students throughout the district, continuing MPS’ team efforts to remove unhealthy ingredients in favor of real, wholesome foods that promote a healthy way of life. MPS’s Department of Nutrition Services has already removed two of the seven artificial ingredients and looks forward to the support to expedite this process. The Life Time Foundation is a public charity started by Life Time, which is opening its first location in Milwaukee on November 7. The Foundation’s registered dietician will team up with MPS to review all of the food labels and recommend changes as needed, with the goal of eliminating the “Harmful 7” ingredients: · Trans Fats & Hydrogenated Oils · High-Fructose Corn Syrup · Hormones & Antibiotics · Processed & Artificial Sweeteners · Artificial Colors & Flavors · Artificial Preservatives · Bleached Flour This partnership between MPS and Life Time Foundation will impact nearly 75,000 students enrolled in MPS by providing clean and nutritious foods though the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Each day, MPS serves 30,000 breakfasts and 50,000 lunches across the district. To date, the Life Time Foundation is helping 310,000 students at 544 schools across the country through 44 million healthy meals and counting.
