WASTE REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST (100%)

SOLID AND HAZARDOUS WASTE EDUCATION CENTER (SHWEC) GREEN BAY

The Waste Reduction and Management Specialist is responsible for providing environmental information, education and technical assistance for UW-Cooperative Extension clients and audiences which include business and industry, communities, organizations and individuals. The Specialist collaborates with and supports the work of Solid and Hazardous Waste Education Center (SHWEC) specialists as they extend the programs of the Center throughout the state. The Specialist focuses on the primary audience of business and industry with the goal of improving the rate of recycling and reuse of solid waste; elimination or reduction of toxic or hazardous wastes; reduction of air pollutants; reduction of wastewater and storm water run-off or other forms of pollutants that may affect water, air, land quality or public health in Wisconsin. Up to 20% of the Specialist’s time will be spent in activities associated with collaborative research and planning with faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Environmental Management and Business Institute.

The Agriculture Agent takes a scholarly approach in integrating concerns and issues identified at the county, state and national levels relative to agriculture economic development, agriculture profitability and environmental quality, and in building the capacity of adults, youth, families, organizations, and communities.
Provide leadership to a comprehensive agriculture program including: soil and water quality especially related to agricultural production; production and economics of emerging agricultural and horticultural products; engagement and leadership development for youth and adults in agriculture; fostering relationships and understanding among the county’s agricultural, natural resource, and urban communities; and partnering with the Horticulture Educator and Youth & Science Educator to expand outreach efforts.

The Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties Nutrition Education Program is a major effort within Cooperative Extension’s Family Living Programs. The aim of Family Living Programs is to enhance the quality of family and community decisions that affect the family and to increase the families’ abilities to adapt to and effect change. Provide leadership for the Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties Nutrition Education Program, collaborate with local agencies to ensure the delivery of nutrition education to low-income residents (especially people who are eligible to receive food stamps or FoodShare), staff training and supervision, and managing the program budget.

The 4-H Youth Development Educator is an educational leader in teaching, accessing and applying research findings in the social, human and behavioral sciences.  The 4-H Youth Development Educator takes a scholarly approach in organizing community resources in support of the inclusive positive development of youth, especially in the areas of leadership and civic engagement.

4-H Youth Development programming in Wisconsin has a dual focus.  It provides inclusive educational programs for youth through 4-H community clubs.  While local 4-H community clubs are Extension’s fundamental model for youth programming, other models of direct youth development programing are also available.  The second area of focus for 4-H Youth Development personnel is in the area of youth development leadership for communities.
