imageThis is Ron Schneider, owner of Leon’s Frozen Custard. Today I interviewed him for the Spanish Journal. During the interview I asked Mr. Schneider about his policy. He insisted that the policy was meant to make his business run more efficiently.

“Having my employees speak English ensured fast and steady movement of our product to customers. We have a fast paced business designed to move our products quickly in order to limit the waiting time for our customers. The problem is not all of my employees can speak Spanish”, Schneider said.

Schneider said he currently employees three Hispanics who will now respond in Spanish (starting Thursday) to assist customers ordering in Spanish.

On Thursday Schneider repealed his English Only policy, after social media and mainstream news networks exploded with the news about his English Only policy. The matter came to a head when Spanish speakers attempting to place an order, were told they could not be helped because Leon’s employees were not allowed to speak Spanish to customers.

I asked him about his understanding of Latino culture. He said his wife is part Hispanic and Native American and that he seeks her advise on such matters. “She tells me there is no issue”, said Schneider.

More regarding my interview with Schneider in the Spanish Journal.

takingsidesOnce again Wisconsin is the focus of negative national attention. Once again Scott Walker proves his critics right who say he is an incompetent and unfit individual to be Governor of Wisconsin. Once again Scott Walker’s hypocrisy exposes itself to the public reminding us of how strongly he and the Republicans criticized Jim Doyle for playing gimmicks with state money to balance the budget, and how he, Scott Walker that is, would follow GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Practices, to make sure his administration would be one of superb transparency, honesty, and faithful steward of taxpayer money. Remember that gobbledegook Republicans?  Recall before the days of Trump and Cruz, those glorious days when people thought the Republicans had learned from past lessons and would not drink the Kool-Aid out of the Cup of greed when they get in power and protect the people’s money?

Well, look what happened here. Not only did the GOP drink the Kool-Aid you mutha-flowers have given Wisconsin a governor who is now postponing a $101 million debt payment, indicating once again the Governor’s and the Republican legislature’s incompetence and lack of economic vision.

Of course you establishment Republicans know that all of this is rooted to the bad decision that Walker and the Republican legislature made in past years. You loyal GOP players know what they did! Walker and his loyalists changed the agenda from creating 250,000 jobs in 2010 to one of union attack and gerrymandering the voting districts, they allowed the waste of $140 million of tax credits wasted in corruption at WEDC, they gave Wisconsin businesses unrestricted 6% tax credits and they did not expand business operations so as to increase tax revenue (that could have been used to pay the debt). These tax credits were mere payoff to donors than anything else, and we least not forget, Walker attempted to change open records law to hide the secret shenanigans he and his gringo cartel played against the Wisconsin taxpayer…need I say more?

So, now that Scott Walker and his gringo cartel postponed paying on the debt, do Republicans still believe the current Republican legislature is good for Wisconsin?

So…is Scott Walker and the current Republican legislature good for Wisconsin? They may be good for the Waukesha, Racine, and Kenosha business owners but not for the rest of Wisconsin. Could it be that these business owners are subcontractors of the Koch Brothers? Maybe they should be investigated for secret bank accounts like the one discovered for the Kock Brothers in Switzerland in the Panama Papers.

Now you have proof why Republicans across the state and nation -except Waukesha, Racine and Kenosha- so strongly rejected Scott Walker. He, the Republican legislature, Reince Priebus, and Paul Ryan are under the direct controll of an establishment of business elites that keep them serving their needs by keeping Walker and his gumba cohorts under their control. Walker is a loyal servant to his corporate masters. Walker could careless about the people of Wisconsin who voted for him.

So keep making Wisconsin look good, Scooter. Soon we should be ready to default on the debt at the rate Walker’s administration is going.

HRC Supporters in Fantasy World

HRC supporters argue that Bernie Sanders remaining in the race is suppressing Clinton’s results in the national polls against Trump. This is the argument of braindead people stuck on a notion told to them. Their inability to think critically explains their unwillingness to test the validity of this argument. This is a level playing field and if HRC was as competitive, she would equal Sanders in these national polls. So the real question is, how much further ahead would Sanders be of Trump without Clinton in the race?

By landslide margins is the answer, and both Clinton and Trump know this.

I do wish that HRC supporters would cease their chatter about how many more votes she has won than Sanders. These results are limited to Democrats, and do not factor in the independents and republicans of the general electorate.

She has received 5% of the national vote, in a party that heavily favours her and represents only 29% of the electorate.

She has been running against an opponent who came from nowhere, starting with no money or organisation and who has accepted no funds from corporate America or special interests.

As a household name and with the entire DNC establishing backing her, along with wealthy and powerful donors, and the liberal media behind her, she has had every advantage.

When she has employed election rigging, voter fraud and suppression, illegal fundraising, a network of surrogates in the DNC establishment and media, a strategy of misrepresenting her opponent to distort the truth, and she has to copy his campaign themes and personality to boost her own popularity, the only place these results are only valid is on paper.

The true metrics are Bernie Sanders $200 million in small donations from 2 million donors making 7 million contributions, a network of 9 million volunteers (without a single paid troll), 1.2 million people attending Sanders rallies, with attendances in excess of 27,000 at single events, and his leading her for months in every poll against Trump.

She can only dream of such enthusiasm and passion from her base. This is the false picture that is painted when the hand of corruption controls the strokes of the brush.

The problem with Clinton’s poor favourability has nothing to do with Bernie Sanders. It is her own past wrong doings catching up with her.

It’s starting to sink in with her campaign and the Clinton media, Trump is going to be harder to defeat than they thought, and they are going to make a scapegoat of Bernie Sanders, the stronger prospect, to hide her weakness.

The Bucks need help. Their starting point guard is a former small forward who stands at 6’11”, their power forward entered the league with an offensive game that was supposed to make up for his defensive shortcomings but doesn’t, and the rest of their young nucleus appears to be more promise than results. The Bucks can’t shoot, especially from three, which might’ve been okay in the 1990’s but in this day and age that just isn’t going to cut it. Three-point shooters space the floor, spread out the defenders so that they can’t clog the paint and force you to shoot shots that you’re unlikely to make. Look at what Golden State and Cleveland are doing, their crunch time lineup consists of five players that can make a three-pointer with some semblance of consistency. Even when playing their regular five, they have at least three players on the floor that you can’t leave open from three.

For the Bucks, Khris Middleton was the only player that teams would feel the need to close out on. Rashad Vaughn, the Bucks first round draft pick last year, was supposed to be able to shoot threes and keep the defense honest, but he shot less than 30% from three last year, and barely 30% from inside the arc.

Almost every draft pundit predicts the Bucks to pick Jakob Poeltl from Utah with the tenth pick, but I have to question this logic. If there is one thing the Bucks do not need it is another player clogging the paint. What will Poeltl be able to do that John Henson can’t? He is bigger, so his defense will probably benefit the Bucks and may lead to a few more easy baskets, but what does he really do for this team? The Bucks desperately need a shooter. They are too far down in the draft to grab one of the can’t miss prospects which is fine because they already have a NBA version of Ben Simmons in Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks need to pray that Jamal Murray or Buddy Hield fall to them at number ten. Though this may seem unlikely, crazier things have happened in NBA drafts. If the Bucks think that nobody worth taking will fall to them, they need to trade up. Trading down or taking a big man will do nothing for this Bucks squad, mostly because the NBA draft isn’t deep enough to be able to find good players often in the back of the draft.

No team made fewer three-pointers than the Bucks last year, and three-pointers are the present and the future. If they decide to roll the dice with the tenth pick, Wade Baldwin IV may be an option. He is certainly a boom or bust candidate, but that is the best the Bucks can hope for when they continue to be just good enough to not get a top pick but not good enough to make the playoffs.

The draft between the eighth pick and the fifteenth pick is no-man’s land, and it is where the Bucks have found themselves far too often to ever fully rebuild.

You never know, though, maybe a star will fall into our lap.

Milwaukee – Run/Walk to Milwaukee Irish Fest participants will make their way to Milwaukee Irish Fest on Saturday, August 20, 2016 to help support the Arthritis Foundation and its mission to cure arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation strives to make it easier for people living with the disease to achieve everyday victories. Run/Walk to Milwaukee Irish Fest brings together the community to fight arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability, and is a great way to experience the power of giving back to your community.

Local honorees will share their inspiring stories of living with arthritis during the Run/Walk to Milwaukee Irish Fest. Adult Champion Jenny Washburn is a 41 year old, mother of two, a wife, business owner and a wellness advocate; she also has arthritis. Jenny was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at age 29. When she was first diagnosed, she let RA define her life. Her pain was intense and unpredictable, so she stopped doing things she loved in fear of damaging her joints and the pain. The daily tasks that most people take for granted became an uphill battle for Jenny.

Although there are still days Jenny suffers from RA and depression, she uses those days as a lesson. “I listen to my body and give it what it needs to be able to live the life I want and deserve,” says Jenny, “My mission is to give hope, courage and strength to those that feel like their disease controls them. There is a better life waiting for you!”

In the United States alone, more than 50 million adults and 300,000 children live with arthritis. Costing the U.S. economy $156 billion dollars a year, arthritis affects one in five Americans and causes more activity limitation than heart disease, cancer or diabetes. The Run/Walk to Milwaukee Irish Fest will help those living with arthritis by supporting programs, research and advocacy initiatives as well as fund crucial research aimed at finding a cure for the disease.

Medical Champion Dr. Donald Zoltan has been involved with the prevention and treatment of arthritis his entire medical career. He is a board certified orthopedic surgeon at Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center, S.C. and after many years treating arthritis patients, he knows the true effects of arthritis.

“Arthritis is more than just a few minor aches and pains. It’s a debilitating disease that robs people of their dreams,” says Medical Champion Dr. Donald Zoltan. “When you support the Run/Walk to Milwaukee Irish Fest, you become a Champion of Yes, helping us build a lifetime of victories while accelerating the search for a cure. Whether you are close to the disease or simply looking for an inspiring charity event that truly makes a difference, Run/Walk to Milwaukee Irish Fest is a great way to experience the power of standing together in the fight for a cure.”

Kenosha police are investigating after a body was discovered at a fire scene on Simmons Island early this morning.

The body was reportedly found as authorities investigated a grass fire. Further information was not immediately available.

A divided Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling has dealt Gov. Scott Walker a loss, upholding a ruling that keeps the state education secretary independent.

The 4-3 decision released today preserves the powers of the state superintendent of public instruction.

The court’s conservative majority was split on whether to overturn its unanimous ruling from 20 years ago that had solidified the state superintendent’s independence as head of the Department of Public Instruction. Ultimately, the court rejected arguments made by Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel to overturn the decision.

The “Oppenheimer Blue” diamond sold today for more than $58.2 million including fees, crushing the previous record for the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction.

Capping a lively and even laughter-filled auction at Christie’s, the hammer came down to applause as the 14.62-carat stone, billed as the largest Vivid Blue diamond ever put up for auction, went to an unidentified buyer.

By Robert Miranda Editor’s Comment

The owner of Leon’s says he’s a person of tradition. He says that his English Only policy is a matter of tradition. That it is tradition in this country that we speak English.

If Ron Schneider, the owner of Leon’s knew this country’s history, he would know that before the European set foot on this land, the tradition of this country was the language of the First Nations.

English and Spanish changed that tradition. So it’s not a matter of tradition. It’s a matter of foolishness on his part.

Spanish has been and will continue to be part of this nation’s traditions.

Milwaukee – Out of the first 9 cities mentioned as the most Drunkest cities in America, Wisconsin has 6 cities out of 9 .

Wisconsin made a splash this past week after a report released by 24/7 Wall Street, listed 6 out of the top 9  drunkest cities in America are located in Wisconsin.

24/7 Wall Street ranked both the drunkest and driest cities in America. The Badger state not only took 6 of the top 9 positions listed in the report, Wisconsin cities took all honors by being listed as the state were 12 of the top 20 cities were the drunkest in the nation.

The top 20 most inebriated cities in America, according to the report are:

1. Appleton

2. Oshkosh-Neenah

3. Green Bay

4. Madison

5. Fargo, North

Dakota

6. Fond du Lac

7. La Cross – Onalaska

8. Ames, Iowa

9. Eau Claire

10. Mankato-North

Mankato,

Minnesota

11. Wausau

12. Sheboygan

13. Missoula,

Montana

14. Grand Forks,

North Dakota

15. Racine

16. Janesville-Beloit

17. Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis

18. Lincoln, Nebraska

19. Iowa City, Iowa

20. Corvallis, Oregon

The report lists four metrics for each of the cities, studied. They include:

– Percent of adults drinking to excess

– Percent of driving deaths involving alcohol

– Premature death rate

– Median household income

The data was collected using these indicators, according to the report.

“To identify the drunkest and least drunk cities in the United States, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed self-reported binge and heavy drinking rates among adults in U.S. metro areas from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute joint program.

Excessive drinking can take the form of binge drinking or heavy drinking. The CDC defines binge drinking as consuming four or more drinks for women and five or more drinks for men during a single sitting. Heavy drinking is defined as some 15 or more drinks consumed per week for men and eight or more drinks for women.”

Of particular concern for many Wisconsin cities is the high rate of drunk driving:

Drunk driving accounts for 31.0% of roadway fatalities nationwide. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, a city where over a quarter of adults drink excessively, 47.5% of fatal car accidents involve alcohol, the seventh highest in the country.

Another interesting matter of concern is information from the report pointing out that  Wisconsin has a larger than normal number of bars per capita.

There are an average of 1.6 bars for every 10,000 residents across the metro areas examined. With the exception of Corvallis, Oregon, each of the 20 cities with the highest excessive drinking rates has at least that many bars per capita.

051816Frontpage1pixMILWAUKEE – Leon’s Frozen Custard has an English-only policy — a policy for which one group has called for a federal investigation.

Ron Schneider, the owner of Leon’s, says his policy has been around for years, and it doesn’t appear that it is hurting his business.

Leon’s is located near 27th and Oklahoma on Milwaukee’s south side.

Schneider told FOX6 News his employees can only speak English on the job.

“Hey, c`mon! It is America. We`ve spoken English for a long, long time,” Schneider said.

The issue came to a head when a Leon’s customer placed an order in Spanish.

The Leon’s employee whispered in Spanish, “I`m not allowed to speak Spanish to you”.

Another customer heard the conversation and placed placed his order in Spanish. The Leon’s employee gave him the same response.

The incident took on a life of its when when the incident was reported over social media with many attacking the policy and many others applauding Leon’s.

However, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is one group that is not applauding Leon’s and is calling for a federal investigation into Leon’s Frozen Custard’s English only policy.

Schneider however stands by the policy and ratcheted up the rhetoric by saying:

“If you don’t want to be on the same page, you must continue to watch the country erode and descend into third world status,” said Schneider, during an interview with TODAY’S TMJ4.

Mundomax Wisconsin spoke with Schneider who informed Mundomax that he only has two employees that speak Spanish.

The policy is something that  LULAC says is in violation of federal law.

“We learned of their language policy, which is in clear violation of federal labor law. Upon reviewing the statements made by management in a video interview detailing Leon’s policy, we are requesting an investigation of this policy by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,” LULAC officials said in a written statement.

LULAC is an organization with a mission to “advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States,” the release states.

Below is a statement from LULAC of Wisconsin State Director Dr. Arturo Martinez:

“In the last 24 hours, LULAC of Wisconsin has received numerous requests to investigate the issue of workplace policy as it pertains to language at Leon’s Frozen Custard located at 3131 S. 27th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While many of us consider this as a community institution, it was surprising when we learned of their language policy, which is in clear violation of federal labor law. Upon reviewing the statements made by management in a video interview detailing Leon’s policy, we are requesting an investigation of this policy by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The law is clear on this issue and offers few exceptions. In the meantime, we encourage management to review their current employment policies with counsel to bring them into compliance. We are confident that in doing so, it will lead to a stronger business and a stronger community.”

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) is awarding $31.5 million in federal funding to 21 grant recipients as part of its MBDA Business Center Program (29). The program is designed to help minority-owned firms create jobs, compete in the global economy and grow their businesses.

“For more than 40 years, MBDA has led efforts to support minority firms and provide them with the tools and technical expertise they need to excel. This is the very foundation on which this Agency was founded back in 1969. It’s the core of who we are and what we represent,” said MBDA National Director Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This funding goes far beyond just the monetary aspect. This is a long-term investment in our community and in our nation.”

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2012 Survey of Business Owners, minority-owned firms in the U.S. increased from 5.8 million in 2007 to 8 million in 2012, and employed 7.2 million people in 2012.

Since 2009, MBDA Business Centers have assisted minority firms with gaining access to more than $31 billion in capital and contracts, while creating and retaining nearly 142,000 jobs.

The grant recipients will join an established network of MBDA Business Centers across the United States and Puerto Rico.  Federal funding will support MBDA Business Centers across the Nation

The recipients will receive the federal funds during a five-year period with a start date of April 1, 2016. MBDA will make additional announcements regarding grant winners and future grant opportunities. For the latest information visit www.mbda.gov .

i) Añasco y Hormigueros en Mayagüez
