Colón Barely Makes Ballot Status, Faces Fraud Charges

Milwaukee - Rep. Pedro Colón survived an extensive challenge of his nomination papers by one of his opponents this week.

The state Government Accountability Board out of Madison voted to place Colón on the ballot after reviewing the challenges to his papers made by Milwaukee Democrat Laura L. Manríquez.

The Government Accountability Board is charged with ensuring that state statutes and rules governing nomination papers submitted by individuals seeking public office are completed and submitted according to the Laws of Wisconsin and the rules of the Government Accountability Board.

Change For Latinas Change For The Community

Change don't come easy, especially when communities are in upheaval, forces are clashing, and our money is being stretched to the limit. Various communities dealing with change and upheaval are debated ad nauseum in media outlets, so no need to discuss it right now. Rather, I'd like to discuss using a tool of change, changing habits or mindsets, to further a group that routinely finds itself at the bottom of local, regional and national lists - for educational attainment, poverty, and political representation.

I am talking about funding a permanent resource in the Milwaukee Community for Latinas. About ongoing philanthropy as a tool for Latina women and girls to stand on equal footing with their peers. In Milwaukee, a great way to do this is by supporting Latinas en Acción.

Editorial: Farmers in the Lead on Global Climate Change

During my years on a farm in southeastern Wisconsin, my parents taught their five children to live a life of careful conservation and land and water stewardship long before anyone we knew was talking about "going green." This was simply representative of their Christian values, of a rural land ethic my father learned growing up on a farm himself, and it made for smart, long-term business decision-making.

Today, those lessons inform my work as Lieutenant Governor, and my Green Economy Agenda is designed to introduce people in their homes, businesses and public institutions like schools to strategies to save and even make money while conserving energy. I travel this week with leaders from the Farmer's Union to introduce their Carbon Credit Program, bringing ongoing innovation to our all-important agricultural producers. [more]
